Biography

Professor David Mc. Arthur Baker of Hospitality & Tourism Management works in the College of Business at Tennessee State University, Nashville. He holds this university career for 28 years. Dr. Baker also does consulting work in the tourism field mainly in South East Asia, the Bahamas and the USA. Before assuming his current position, he worked as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Missouri and Eastern Illinois University, and as a Resort Manager of the Frigate Bay Beach Resort in the Caribbean Nation of St. Kitts/Nevis. In the USA he has done consulting work with the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Fairmont Hotel Kansas City, and the Hyatt Regency Crown Center Kansas City.

As a researcher, his interests include cruise ship tourism, Islands sustainable tourism development, destinations marketing and teaching and learning. He has published over 35 articles in leading tourism research journals, book chapters and is a reviewer for several journals. One of his journal articles has more than 116,000 downloads, a mark of distinction.

Dr. Baker holds a PhD in Workforce Education & Development (Hospitality & Tourism concentration) from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale USA, MS in Hotel & Foodservice Management from Florida International University-Miami and a B.Sc. in Hotel Management from University of the West Indies.
